Rasūl mīr

Walai Kostūriye

Rasūl Mīr رَسوٗل میٖر also known as Rasūl Mīr Shahabadi, was a romantic poet of Kashmir in the 19th century. He was born at Doru Shahabad, a historic town in Anantnag district of Kashmir.  He is often referred to as imām-e-ishqiya shairi’ (The epitome of romantic poetry) for his literary contribution to Kashmiri romanticism. Mīr was said to have been alive in around 1855 when Mahmud Gami and Soch Kral Sa’eb died. He died a few years before Maqbool Shah, Kralawari. Though, Muhammad Y, Taing, in his book کلیاتِ رسول میر (Kulliyat-e-Rasūl Mir) mentions of a document from Revenue Department, Anantnag, dated 5 April 1889, acknowledging Rasūl Mīr as a muqdam (village chieftain, in accord to the agrarian system of Kashmir).ī

Hearing your melody, As if the embers have fallen on dry, tender wood, come, my love, do not stroll around idly.

Vernagay neryé ba agiye, achhval ki posh sharey lagiye,

I will leave Vernag early to attend to you, and adorn you with howers from Achbal

grāyi  marān kot gachakh kan dūriye, walay kostūriye par mai trāv nēriye.

Swaying, where are you going my kanu dyriye?, come, my love, do not stroll around idly.

Hee panas mol thovye zatan, k0t chhakh gachhan wananay jahatam

The Almighty has made your jasmine body priceless, in different directions you are going without letting anyone know where.

yor yikhna lol chhum chon mooriye, walay kostūriye par mai trāv nēriye.

Won’t you come to me? I long for you, Come, my love. do not stroll around idly.

 

Navi namas peth ham ta khor chhakh vayan, yim nay ashkan tiri michgan layan.

At the end of the boat. revving with an oar, you are casting arrows at your lovers.

Ham goy abas nam rathatay yuriye, walay kostūriye par mai trāv nēriye.

Arter losing the our in water”, come to this bank. Come my love, do not stroll around idly.

Mattan wudre haka san chhakh khasan, tikka dar qasābas grāyi chakhay marān

Walking briskly on the mattan wudar, you are swaying your ornamented head dress.

konkul mastras mokhta shubiye juriye, walay kostūriye par mai trāv nēriye.

Your curly hair deserves pearls in pairs, come, my love, do not stroll around idly.

Gacchi kuthinay vatharāvith thaviye, lachi hal panun baviye

Rooms with decorative surfaced walls I will furnish for you, and relate my state to the Almighty with Myraid names.

wacchi manzlis manz rachhath acchi nuriye, walay kostūriye par mai trāv nēriye.

I will protect you, the light of my eyes, in the cradle of my heart, come, my love, do not stroll around the idly
